Terms of Service

MageFall  ·  Last updated: April 4, 2026  ·  Effective immediately upon account creation or gameplay.

1 Acceptance of Terms

By registering an account, logging in, or otherwise participating in MageFall (the "Game"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Game.

These Terms apply to all players, including registered accounts and any guest or read-only access. They govern your use of the game client, the map, the Auction House, guild systems, Banter Chat, and any other feature of MageFall now or in the future.

MageFall is operated as a personal/indie project, not a commercial enterprise. These Terms are written in plain language to be honest and readable — not to bury you in legalese.

2 Free to Play

MageFall is completely free to play. There are no subscription fees, no premium currency, no pay-to-win mechanics, and no hidden paywalls. We do not sell in-game advantages, cosmetics, or loot boxes.

We do not currently run advertisements or collect payment information of any kind. You will never be asked to enter a credit card, PayPal, or any financial credentials to play.

We run the game on a best-effort basis out of our own pocket. If that ever changes, these Terms will be updated clearly and in advance.

No strings attached. You're not a customer — you're a player. We keep the game up because we enjoy running it. We appreciate you playing, and we hope you have fun.

3 Accounts & Security

3.1 Registration

You must register an account to participate in most game features. You agree to provide a username that does not impersonate another person and does not contain slurs, threats, or personal information.

3.2 Account Responsibility

3.3 Seasonal Resets

MageFall operates in seasonal rounds. At the end of each season, realm data — including land, armies, gold, auction house listings, and standings — may be fully wiped to start a fresh season. This is an intended and normal part of the game. Do not treat in-game progress as persistent or permanent.

4 The Map & Player Territory Content

4.1 How the Map Works

The MageFall map is a shared grid of land parcels. Players claim, expand, attack, and lose territory over the course of a season. The visual shape and arrangement of any player's territory is entirely determined by that player's in-game choices — not by the operators of the game.

4.2 Player-Drawn Shapes & Crude Map Content

We will be direct about this: players use the map to draw things. Shapes, symbols, and other arrangements emerge organically as players expand and contract their territory. Some of these are creative. Some are clever. And some — we'll be honest — are anatomical in nature. We have seen it all.

By playing MageFall, you acknowledge and accept that:

That said — if a player uses the map, usernames, or any other system to target, harass, or threaten a specific real person (as opposed to just... drawing a funny shape in the general direction of the void), that crosses into conduct we will address. See Section 6.

4.3 Territorial Actions

Attacking, seizing, or destroying another player's territory is an intended game mechanic. Losing land — even all of it — is a normal game outcome. We do not intervene in territorial disputes or reverse the results of in-game battles.

5 Chat & Player Content

MageFall includes a public Banter Chat and a private Guild Chat. By posting in either, you agree to the following:

We reserve the right to remove messages, mute accounts, or disable chat access at any time to protect the community or the service.

6 Conduct & Enforcement

6.1 What Is Not Allowed

6.2 What Is Fine

Competitive trash talk, rivalries, coordinated guild attacks, map domination, and aggressive gameplay are all part of the game. Beating someone into the ground in a fair fight is not harassment. Use the in-game mute tools if you need them.

6.3 Enforcement

We handle enforcement on a best-effort basis. We are a small operation and cannot guarantee real-time moderation. When we become aware of a violation, we may take any of the following actions without notice:

We do not guarantee appeals, explanations, or reinstatement in all cases. We will try to be fair. If you believe an action was taken in error, you can reach out via the Discord.

7 Availability & Data

MageFall is provided "as-is" with no guarantee of uptime, stability, or continuity of service. We do our best to keep the game running, but this is a self-hosted indie project, not a commercial platform with SLAs or redundant infrastructure.

We genuinely try to keep things stable and fun. But life happens. Servers go down. Bugs happen. We appreciate your patience when they do.

8 Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the game and its data — including access controls, server-side validation, and standard web security practices. However, no system is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee that the game or its data will be free from unauthorized access, loss, or corruption.

9 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MageFall and its operators are not liable for any damages, losses, or costs arising from:

In no event will the aggregate liability of the game's operators exceed zero dollars, as no money was exchanged for your use of this service.

Plain language: This is a free game run by real people who are doing their best. If something goes wrong, we're sorry — but we're not legally or financially liable for it. If that's not acceptable to you, please don't play.

10 Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will make an effort to notify players through the in-game update notice or Discord. Continued use of the game after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

We will not retroactively criminalize past behavior. Changes to Terms apply going forward.

11 Termination

Either party may end this relationship at any time.

Upon termination, your account data (including land, units, gold, and chat history) may be deleted or permanently removed from the game. We have no obligation to preserve it.
